Khufu - the pyramid builder

Khufu is a free utility for batch conversion of images in various formats to TIFF format with embedded multi resolution “Image Pyramid” data. The actual conversion is done by Adobe® Photoshop® CS or 7.0 which is controlled by Khufu through scripting (Photoshop 7.0 requires the Scripting plug-in). Khufu scans a “source folder” recursively and compares the contents with a “shadow folder”. Khufu automatically creates new folders and images in TIFF format in the shadow folder as images are added to - or modified in - the source folder.

Optionally Khufu can also be instructed to automatically add images to a Canto Cumulus database as they are created. This is done by scripting the Cumulus® client software.

Why Khufu?

Although Adobe Photoshop comes with powerful tools for automation such as actions, droplets and batch conversions it lacks support for preserving the existing directory structure, skipping existing files, filtering out unwanted formats, quarantine of temporary or incomplete files, repeated operations (hot folders) and more.

Khufu is here to fix all that.

Supported platforms

Khufu itself is implemented in Java™ and therefore designed to run on any Java2 enabled platform. But since it uses Adobe Photoshop for conversion the potential platforms are limited to Windows and Mac OS. Currently only a Microsoft Windows® version is available. Support for MacOS X might be added at a later stage.
