Since last.

Since the eRez Imaging server was released in November 2001 people have been busy changing their online use of static images to dynamic eRez images and eRez is now serving thousands of “live” images to end users around the globe every day. In case you have not yet had a chance to familiarize your self with eRez this is how it works:

 

With the traditional “push” model one or more variations of an image is prepared in advance for each device or media on which the image is to be used. It’s not hard to imagine that this is a time consuming and costly process.

 

 

The eRez Imaging Server fully automates this process by creating variations of a single master image on demand. With this Just-In-Time “pull” model only a single master image needs to be created and maintained. This saves both time and money in production – but also makes it possible to use “live” images on web pages. Live eRez images enhances the end user experience (read: sales) by allowing the user to freely zoom into and resize the images as needed.

 

 

To summarize, eRez reduces time-to-market for online communication, enhances the end-user experience and at the same time saves you money. It’s no wonder why leading e-tailers and brand owners are choosing eRez.

 

What’s new?

As of today the following new products and updates are available:

 

-          pRez. The much awaited pRez extension for the eRez Imaging Server is now available. The pRez option is a web-based self-service allowing end-users to locate, process and download print-ready high resolution images for any printing device  - in seconds - 24x7.

-          eRez Imaging Server 1.1. This update adds many enhancements and new features to eRez such as dynamic PNG and PDF creation.

What’s next?

At YaWah.com we do our best to listen to our customers and the most wanted features at this point are:

 

-          A searchable database. eRez comes with a web application to hierarchically browse images online and can easily be integrated with most commercial media asset management systems (MAM). Nevertheless, just to prove how simple it is to integrate eRez with a database we built our own lightweight MAM system on top of eRez and the open source MySQL database. The complete source code for our lightweight MAM system will be released as open source soon and serve as an excellent platform for building customized solutions. Please drop me a line if you want to be a beta tester or otherwise participate in this project.

 

-          On-line editing of IPTC metadata. The eRez Imaging Server version 1.2 will support online editing of IPTC data (keywords, caption, etc.) as well as online renaming of files and folders.

 

-          More programmatic access to eRez and pRez. The eRez Imaging Server 1.2 will include a web-service (SOAP) interface for obtaining information and metadata about assets and to control the pRez rendering-queue from other applications.
